Guide to Sending Money to Brazil from the United States
Sending Money from the US to Brazil: Pix or Bank Deposit
With Sharemoney you can send money to Brazil from the United States in two ways: to a Pix key or straight into a Brazilian bank account. Both put the money in your recipient's account, in Brazilian reais, without them having to go anywhere to collect it.
Pix is the way most of our Brazil customers send. It is the payment system run by Brazil's Central Bank, and almost every bank and digital account in Brazil uses it. Your recipient only needs to give you their Pix key, and the money usually arrives in minutes. Pix works 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
A bank deposit is the classic route. You enter your recipient's bank, branch (agência) and account number, and the money goes to that account. It is a good choice when your recipient prefers to share bank details instead of a Pix key, or when you are paying a business.
How to choose? If your recipient already uses Pix (most people in Brazil do), ask for their Pix key: it is one short piece of information instead of three, and there is less room for typing mistakes. If they would rather not share a key, or you are sending to an account that isn't linked to Pix, use the bank details.
Either way, you pay in dollars from your phone or computer and see the rate and fee before you confirm. Then you can follow the transfer in the app.
What Your Recipient in Brazil Needs to Give You
Before your first transfer, ask your recipient for a few details. Having them ready makes the transfer quick and avoids delays.
For any transfer: your recipient's full name, exactly as it appears on their Brazilian ID, and their CPF (the Brazilian taxpayer number). For a business account, you need the CNPJ instead.
For Pix: their Pix key. A Pix key can be a CPF or CNPJ, an email address, a mobile phone number or a random key generated by their bank. Ask them to copy it from their banking app so there are no typos.
For a bank deposit: the name of the bank, the branch number (agência) and the account number.
You will also be asked where your recipient lives in Brazil (city and state). You enter it once: after your first transfer, the recipient is saved in your account.
Double-check the details with your recipient before you send. Money sent to a wrong Pix key or account can be hard to recover.
How Pix Works When You Send from the US
Pix was launched by Brazil's Central Bank to move money between accounts in Brazil. When you send with Sharemoney, you pay in dollars in the US, we convert the money to reais, and it is delivered in Brazil through Pix to the account linked to your recipient's key.
For your recipient, it looks like any other Pix they receive: the money shows up in the account where their Pix key is registered, whether that is a big bank or a digital account. They don't need a Sharemoney account and they don't need to do anything to accept it.

Fees, Exchange Rate and Your First Transfer
Transfer fees to Brazil start at $0. The final fee depends on how you pay: debit card, credit card or bank account. Before you confirm, you see the fee, the exchange rate and the exact amount in reais your recipient will get.
You can pay with a debit card, a credit card or your bank account. If you pay with a credit card, your card issuer may charge a cash advance fee. Paying with a debit card doesn't add that cost, and it is also the card you need for the first-transfer offer.
Your first transfer to Brazil has a $0 fee and a promotional exchange rate. Valid on your first transaction, up to $500 with a debit card. Not combinable with other promotions.
When you compare options, look at the amount in reais your recipient gets, not only the fee. A transfer with a low fee and a weak exchange rate can leave your family with less money than one with a slightly higher fee and a better rate. Our calculator shows both numbers together, so you can see the real total before you send.
The exchange rate moves during the day. Check today's USD to BRL rate on our rates and fees page before you send a large amount.
Banks Your Family Uses: Caixa, Nubank, Banco do Brasil and Itaú
Among our customers, the most common destinations for bank deposits are Caixa, Nubank, Banco do Brasil and Itaú. You can send to any of them, either to an account number or to a Pix key registered at that bank.
It doesn't matter whether your recipient uses a traditional bank or a digital account. Traditional banks like Caixa, Banco do Brasil and Itaú have branches across the country; digital banks like Nubank work entirely from the phone. Both receive Pix and bank deposits the same way.
If your recipient has a Pix key, the bank behind it doesn't change anything for you: you only enter the key, and the money goes to whichever bank or account they linked it to. If you send to bank details instead, choose the bank from the list and enter the branch and account number.
If your recipient's bank is not one of these, you can most likely still send: see the full list of banks in Brazil you can send to with Sharemoney.

Tips for Your First Transfer to Brazil
Start with the details. Ask your recipient to send you their full name, CPF and Pix key (or bank details) in writing, so you can copy them instead of typing them from memory.
Check the amount in reais. The calculator shows how much your recipient gets after the exchange. If they need an exact amount in reais, enter that amount and let the calculator work out the dollars.
Use your debit card for the first transfer to get the $0 fee and the promotional rate on up to $500. Valid on your first transaction, up to $500 with a debit card. Not combinable with other promotions.
Keep your receipt. After you send, you get a confirmation and you can follow the transfer in the app. Share the confirmation with your recipient so they know the money is on its way.
Next time is quicker. Your recipient stays saved in your account, so future transfers only take a few taps.
